On 29 December 1957, Venerable Sumangalo initiated the Children Sunday Dharma Class at the Penang Buddhist Association (PBA). During the inception, there were already more than 200 children attending the Sunday Dharma Class. PBADSS thus became the first Dharma Sunday School in Malaysia.
In March 1960, the Mandarin Section of PBADSS was launched with the teaching of Buddhism in Mandarin. In 1994, the two sections of PBADSS, i.e. Mandarin Section and English Section, were formally merged into one.
PBADSS also organised many annual Dharma propagation and welfare activities, such as Buddhist camps, blood donation, annual Sanghikadana, vegetarian food charity fair and etc. to attract more youths to participate in healthy and meaningful activities.
PBADSS is one of the affiliated units under the PBA. The School is supervised by the Dharma Sunday School Board of Governors appointed by the PBA Committee. The PBADSS is led by its Executive Committee, headed by the Hon. Principal, Deputy Hon. Principals, Hon. Secretary, Hon. Treasurer, Head of Dharma Propagation and Head of the Academic Section.
