‘YBAM: From Past to Future’ Dialogue |RAIA Hotel & Convention Centre | 03.06.2023
During the 26th YBAM Biennial National Convention, the 26th YBAM General Secretary Bro. Eow Shiang Yen moderated a dialogue ‘YBAM: From Past to Future’ with the guest speakers being YBAM Lay Advisor Bro. Leong Kok Hing and the 26th YBAM President Bro. Yong Kuei Yoong,
Since its establishment, YBAM has nearly 53 years of history. There are different changes in causes and conditions throughout these 53 years, including the macro-environment, major trends, the policy and direction of government, ecosystem of Malaysian Buddhism, and others. The organiser hopes that through the experience sharing, setting of insights and altitude, and judgements towards the future of the speakers, the audience could understand the various challenges of YBAM during the pioneering stage, its subsequent development to the systematic and stable era afterwards, it evolvement to the current YBAM, and also reflect on how YBAM should maintain its relevance and foothold in the Malaysian and world Buddhism in the future.
The topics explored during the dialogue included the challenges faced by YBAM during the pioneering stage, how should YBAM learn from the past or use the past as reference in order to create a better present and future?, the forward-thinking mentality of the team during your era and whether it has been realised and still exists in the present YBAM, how should YBAM mobilise youth, providing unique learning and service experience for them?, and opinions on what YBAM should promote, innovate, or the role to play in the contemporary ecosystem of Buddhism.
