Korea Buddhist Culture Tour | Uiduk University | 01.09.2023
Uiduk University is a comprehensive university founded by the Jinkyu Sect, a Korean esoteric sect, with the purpose of ‘globalisation, localisation, and informatisation’. The name of Uiduk University is taken from the ‘Mahayana Solemn Precious King Sutra’ which says ‘Uiduk is at ease and the appearance is dignified’. Uiduk is the general term for authority (prestige) and virtue (moral hope), indicating that the purpose of Uiduk University is to cultivate academic authority and develop a perfect personality, that is, to cultivate outstanding talents with ‘both intelligence and morality’. The school emblem of Uiduk University is a Falun symbolising truth. The six gears represent the six degrees of practicing moral standards (generosity, precepts, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom).
Arriving at Uiduk University early in the morning, the university first welcomed everyone with a Korean self-defense performance, and then taught everyone how to learn self-defense and let all participants experience the ‘breaking board’ session.
