Serdang Buddhist Association

At 5th of September 1991, Serdang Buddhist Association was officially approved by the government and thus announced the establishment. In 6th of October 1991, the first management committee was held in a Flat Resident Association, there are altogether 10 committee members, which consists of the President, Deputy President, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer and 4 committee members.

In the same year of establishment, Serdang Buddhist Association set up their centre in a housing area, since then they had been actively organising Dharma propagation activities, such as inviting Venerable Chi Chern as a Dharma talk host, at the same time they also initiated Wesak Day March, Dharma classes, Dharma Walk, Secondary Students Camp and etc. Besides this, Serdang Buddhist Association also organized various society activities, such as blood donation, Mid Autumn Festival, Chinese New Year charity sale and etc.

At year 1992, in order to let students and youths in the area to know more about Dharma, the Serdang Buddhist Association started Sunday Dharma Classes for both primary and secondary students. They also helped in coordinating and encouraging students to participate in the National Buddhist Examination, at 2011 they even succeeded in registering 104 students to register for the National Buddhist Examination.

Until year 1999, the members of association had increases rapidly, thus committee member start to survey for a new location and organize fundraising campaign to build up the new building. At year 2002 Serdang Buddhist Association moved to Serdang Baru.

The second and present building is located in housing area, which gradually causes inconveniences to the neighbourhood. In addition, the current building is old and limited in space, hence the management committee of Serdang Buddhist Association decided to look for a new location at year 2013. They decided to purchase a new 3-storey building at the Serdang Business Park as the new association building. The location for the new building is very strategic, convenient and suitable as a venue for the association to continue the Dharma propagation work.

Serdang Buddhist Association hope to raise the fund of RM1.2 million, they wishes that with the help and donation from every party available, when the conditions are right, they will be able to provide a better place and environment for all people to learn the Dharma, practice Dharma, and plant more Bodhi seeds in the community.

The Serdang Buddhist Association adopted the following 5 objectives to propagate the teachings of Buddha since its establishment in 1991:

(i) To provide a conducive environment for Buddhists to learn Dharma.

(ii) To promote the teachings of Buddha among Buddhists.

(iii) To promote the Buddhist culture and education.

(iv) To provide training and uplift the Buddhist ethics.

(v) To promote social welfare and charity activities.
