Dungun Buddhist Youth Circle

This society was established in the year 1968, in conjunction with of the completion of the construction of Rumah Berhala Hong Tien Tiang. This holy building houses a hall, which is an ideal place for everyone to pray and to learn how to pay salutations to the Buddha. Ven. Por Than Kren and Ven. Prak Bault jointly conducted the launching ceremony of the hall.

The number of participants has been increasing since early 1971, and it was thus decided that the “Dungun Buddhist Youth Circle” to be formed in order to attract more youngsters to learn the Dharma. In April of the same year, an organizing committee was officially formed under the leadership of Wee

Shi Chong; with the committee members comprising Chong Cheng Sing,Lim Chong Kiat,Goh  Shi Siong,Tan Yue Ken,Chin Siew Wah,Gan Geok Lan,Tan Lan Ching,Chong Mee Keng,Tham Yu Heng, and Chen Boon Leong. We are indeed grateful that we had the strong support and guidance from our Advisor, Prak Kuan, Tan Kwang Heng, Tan Yen Chuan and Chua Hin Leong. The ceremony was successfully held at the Kelab Kong Ee Hall on 14th June 2016.

The Committee for the year 1997 – 98:

President: Tan Yue Ken

Deputy President: Lau Tong Chuan

Secretary: Ang Ah Kiang

Assistant Secretary: Hoe Yoke Ing

Treasurer: Tia Ching Sai

Committee / Council Members: Pua Kia Khin, Tan Guat Moi, Tan Lee Guan, Wong Tong Chin, Hoe Chiu Kong, Yong Chong Wen Tan Bee Yong, Tan Chee Kong, Tham Yu Heng & Lee Ah Yee。

Since the establishment of the committee and under the past and present leaderships of Chin Siew Wah,Tan Yue Ken,Chua Geok Lin and other appointed Presidents, they have been actively promoting Buddhism and various charity activities, among them were :

1) the “Friday Dharma Classes” since 1972.

2) the East Coast Buddhist Youth training programmes for the 1st session (1974) and the 8th session (1984) by the YBAM and Terengganu SLC

On 30 August 1978, we finally secured approval from the Registrar of Societies, and registered under the name “Long Yun Buddhist Youth Society”. However, on 29 June 1990, we changed our name to “Long Yun Buddhist Society”, and to date, we already have had 45 years of history.

Under the tenure of our Past Presidents, Ang Ah Kiang, Choo Meh Wah, Chan Foo Wah and others, we have set up the ““Foundation of Compassion” to help the socially vulnerable and disadvantaged groups. We have spearheaded numerous programmes throughout the years, including Blood Donation Campaign, Auspicious CNY Lantern Celebrations, Ullambana Assembly, Dharma classes, group meditation and Dharma talks and sharings.
